What is asbestos?
Asbestos is a highly toxic material when disturbed through abrasion or movement, and can release invisible pollutants in the air that directly contribute to cancers, lung conditions, and exacerbate other health problems. It was commonly used in building materials and as insultation up until the 1980s before it was banned in 1999. If you’re buying or renovating an older property, it’s important to ensure you have an inspection carried out to ensure no asbestos is present.
What does asbestos testing involve?
An inspection involves taking single or bulk samples of any suspected ACMs and having them analysed for asbestos fibres in a pre-approved UKAS-accredited laboratory. Having an asbestos test carried out will confirm whether you have asbestos, which type of asbestos it could be or no asbestos detected (NAD).
