Safely remove asbestos containing materials

Asbestos is a naturally occurring material that is known for its resistance to heat and its strength. It was widely used in construction during the late 1870s all the way through to the early 1990s. After being discovered to be incredibly harmful, asbestos was finally banned during the late 90s. However, many buildings built during this time period still contain asbestos today. Asbestos can cause a range of harmful and even life-threatening illnesses such as lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Living in older buildings can put individuals at risk of asbestos exposure, which is why professional removal services are so important. Contact us to learn more about how we can help.

Buildings constructed or refurbed before the year 2000 have the possibility to still contain asbestos and should be presumed until proven otherwise.

FAQs

  • What is asbestos?
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral fibre that has been used for various purposes due to its unique properties. It was once highly regarded for its resistance to heat, fire, and corrosion, as well as its strength and durability. There are several types of asbestos minerals, but the most commonly known and used ones include: Chrysotile (white asbestos): This is the most common type of asbestos and was widely used in construction materials like insulation, roofing, and cement products. Amosite (brown asbestos): Often used in products like thermal insulation and pipe insulation. Crocidolite (blue asbestos): Known for its resistance to high temperatures, it was used in applications such as steam engines and spray-on coatings. Asbestos is hazardous to human health when its fibers become airborne and are inhaled or ingested. The microscopic asbestos fibers can lodge in the lungs and other organs, leading to serious health problems over time
  • What does asbestos removal involve?
The objective of asbestos removal is to eliminate the risk presented from asbestos fibres. ACMs (asbestos containing materials) come in many forms and typically include boards, insulations and coatings. If it’s decided that an ACM is to be removed, then consideration may need to be given to reinstatement using a non-asbestos alternative. An example of this would be textured coating to a plasterboard ceiling that is good condition but it has become necessary to gain access to the ceiling void (Often to run new cables or add down lights) It may be decided to remove the ceiling and replace it with new modern plasterboard so that future access is possible without risk from asbestos fibres.
  • How much will an asbestos inspection cost?
That depends on the size and location of the property. We will be able to quote you over the phone or by email if you have sufficient information.
  • Can I dispose of asbestos myself?
It’s against the law to dispose of asbestos using the local council household waste collection service or the local tip. You must make arrangements with a specialist contractor (such as ourselves) that holds an asbestos waste carriers licence.
  • Are you licenced to carry out works?
MD Asbestos Solutions have a waste removal carrier licence and are fully trained to safely remove asbestos in accordance with the requirements set out under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and HSE Guidance HSG 264.
  • Where do you dispose of waste?
Aa a responsible asbestos removal company, MD Asbestos Solutions ensure hazardous waste is disposed of via a trusted and reputable waste transfer station. Customers receive the correct documentation and consignment notes for proof of the legitimate disposal method.

Ros K – Google review

Jason was fantastic. I called on Monday, he came out on Tuesday and was very thorough - he explained a lot about asbestos to me - took samples and called me with the lab results 3 days later. I cannot recommend this company highly enough. They are extremely professional and efficient. I thought their fee was very reasonable and their service second to none!
